Evolution in tailoring defines the new suit. Jackets are trimmed-down, with higher armholes and defined waists. The suit has become lighter and more functional through structural innovation. Shoulder padding is minimal and new 4-season fabrics redefine the suit, which is engineered for higher function wear in stretch and water resistant wools. This evolution has delivered a group of modern classics.
The two-button suit with a notched lapel jacket and a flat-front pant now takes the prominent position among suit styles. Every man should own a "new" two-button suit in a midnight navy or grey. Look for peak lapels to add physique-defining elegance for one- or two-button suit jackets, resulting in a look that's timelessly retro with sharp, updated lines.
A peak lapel jacket also achieves the elongated effect that is so desired in modern sartorial essentials worn formally or as a sport jacket. The latter, less-reserved style adds geometry to the torso for a height-inducing effect that is nicely complemented by a fine pin or bolder chalk stripe.
The sports jacket, a modern classic, links casual and formal. While drawing on a timeless shape, a forward-looking sports jacket is simultaneously traditional and progressive in a tonally neutral windowpane, Prince of Wales check, small-scale houndstooth or herringbone pattern. A hint of colour adds visual excitement and lends itself well to hues picked up in a shirt, tie or accent-coloured knit.
More of a casual modern classic, the unconstructed jacket, offers the ease of a knit with enough structure to keep the silhouette tailored. Unconstructed spring and summer offerings in cotton and linen blends are a testament to good taste with minimal linings, perfect finishing, little-to-no shoulder padding and a less body-conscious cut.
