La Mer’s journey began when Dr. Max Huber suffered burns in an experiment gone awry and set out to create his own destiny. Physicist by day, stargazer and dreamer by night, he hoped to unlock the healing power of the sea he held so dear. Inspired by the oceanic world, Huber fermented nutrient-rich sea kelp with other natural ingredients. 12 years and 6,000 experiments later, Crème de la Mer was born – and Huber’s skin visibly restored.
The Art of Fermentation
Our Pacific sea kelp is combined with calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron, and lecithin, Vitamins C, E and B12, along with oils of citrus, eucalyptus, wheat germ, alfalfa and sunflower and then put through a bio-fermentation process that lasts three months. Like alchemy, the resulting Miracle Broth™ is more than the sum of its parts – it’s as alive as the sea itself. Dr. Huber believed that kelp held the mulititudes of the sea’s energies within its cells and went to great lengths to unlock this power. In honour of his wishes, our sea kelp is still hand-harvested twice a year and shipped on ice to the Dr. Max Huber Research Laboratories. It’s the details that make the difference.
