Silvia Venturini Fendi was in a midsummer mindset as she brought her Spring 2020 womenswear collection to life. More specifically, the designer opted to celebrate the kind of blissful summer vacation only Italians seem to truly embrace; the kind where you head to the coast and check out completely for a month or so. The Spring collection sees sand, tan, and warm browns all comingle in outfits often defined by detailing and textural play. Structure is still present, preventing the silhouettes from feeling too laidback—though sheer fabrications add softness. Bronzed takes on gingham are refined, feeling like the sartorial version of late afternoon shadows found running across a beach. Moult mannequins vedettes, nommément Bella, Adut et Kendall, ont vogué sur la passerelle dans des créations aux chaudes teintes sable, havane et marron, accentuées de textures et de garnitures. Big colour comes in the form of blown-up blooms with a retro vibe. Best of the bunch is a glossy oversized jacket worn with a micro-mini skirt, both painted in tropical green hues. As carefree as the overall vibe is, this collection doesn’t veer too far into bohemia, instead maintaining an air of stylish sophistication. For the menswear showing, Silvia Venturini Fendi turned her gaze to her garden. Held in the gardens of Milan’s Villa Reale, the runway show provided a pastoral backdrop to bring the messaging home. Design-wise, much of Spring is utilitarian, with offerings trotted out in an assortment of green and brown tones. Du côté masculin, Silvia Venturini Fendi s’est tournée vers ses espaces verts. Le défilé, tenu dans les jardins de la Villa Reale à Milan, dressait la toile de fond idéale pour présenter un homme en symbiose avec la nature. Graphics are featured prominently; lattice-like cut-outs elevate a V-neck sweater, acting as a conversation point between the men’s and women’s collections. Botanical prints gain a militaristic outlook, while the iconic FF motif takes on a camouflage-like appearance, decorating a breezy tunic. Despite all the goings on, practicality is still number one for men.
